Tesla has launched a new version of its best-selling Model Y SUV with a lower price and a longer range. The new Model Y Rear-Wheel Drive (RWD) Long Range starts at $46,630, including a mandatory $1,390 destination fee and $250 order fee. That’s $4,000 lower than the cost of the only other trim currently on offer.
If the trim name sounds familiar, it should.
Tesla has sold a Model Y RWD Long Range before. However, the company launched an updated Model Y in January, initially selling it only in pricier all-wheel-drive (AWD) editions.
The Model Y RWD Long Range can travel up to 357 miles between charges, Tesla says — 30 more than an AWD Model Y.
The company no longer publishes horsepower figures for its cars, but estimates that the Model Y RWD Long Range has a 0-60 mph time of 5.4 seconds. That’s 0.8 seconds slower than AWD versions, but relatively quick for a compact SUV.
