Will Chase match the 100K bonus on the Chase Sapphire Preferred? – The Points Guy

The current 100,000-point welcome offer on the Chase Sapphire Preferred® Card (see rates and fees) is too lucrative to miss out on.

But what if you applied for the card just a few weeks before Chase’s best offer on this product this year launched? Well, all hope is not lost.

We’ve received multiple reports from TPG readers on our Instagram account who applied for the card in the weeks leading up to the April 3 launch of the elevated welcome offer and successfully received an offer match.

And while you’ll need to spend $5,000 in total (instead of the $4,000 required in the previous offer) to earn the 100,000 bonus points, the additional points are clearly worth it.

Plus, this is your last chance to get the elevated offer, which ends on May 15 at 9 a.m. EDT. So, you’ll want to act soon to ensure you’ll earn this haul of points. Here’s what you need to know.

    Current Chase Sapphire Preferred bonus

For a limited time, the Chase Sapphire Preferred is offering 100,000 bonus Ultimate Rewards points after spending $5,000 on purchases in the first three months from account opening.

This offer is worth $2,050 toward travel, per our May 2025 valuations.

The Sapphire Preferred has only featured a welcome offer of 100,000 points once in the past eight years.

This lucrative bonus makes now an ideal time to get the card if you haven’t added it to your wallet yet, especially since it’s your last chance to earn the current elevated offer, which ends on May 15.

And, if you applied for the card just a few days too early, you may still be in luck.

What to do if you applied before the 100K offer

If you applied for the Sapphire Preferred before the 100,000-point bonus launched April 3, you’ll need to contact Chase to match the offer by calling the number on the back of your card or sending a secure message via your online Chase account. It may not work, but there’s no harm in asking.

If Chase approves your request, your spending requirement for the bonus will adjust from $4,000 in three months to $5,000 in three months. This is the current spending requirement for the 100,000 points.

Who is eligible for the Sapphire Preferred bonus?

Regarding eligibility for the Chase Sapphire Preferred, Chase states the following on its website:

The product is not available to either (i) current cardmembers of any Sapphire credit card, or (ii) previous cardmembers of any Sapphire credit card who received a new cardmember bonus within the last 48 months.

So, as long as you haven’t collected a bonus on the Sapphire Preferred or the Chase Sapphire Reserve® (see rates and fees) in the last 48 months, you should be able to apply and earn this 100,000-point offer.

However, you’ll also need to remember Chase’s 5/24 rule, an unpublished restriction that makes it likely that those who have opened five or more personal credit card accounts in the past two years will be denied a new card from Chase.

It is also recommended that you have a credit score of at least 670 for the highest chance of approval for the card.

    Bottom line

If you applied for the Sapphire Preferred just before the 100,000-point offer went live, you may be able to get Chase to match the offer. We can’t guarantee it will be successful, but we strongly believe it’s worth asking. You’ll want to do this soon since this is your last chance to earn the offer, which will end on May 15.

Remember that the spending requirement is up from $4,000 to $5,000 with the current offer. So, if you are approved for a bonus match, you’ll need to be sure you meet the minimum spending requirement.

But if you were disappointed you jumped a bit too early, there’s a chance you won’t miss out after all.
