Introduction
Winner of the Kelley Blue Book EV Best Buy Award for 2021, the 2022 Hyundai Kona Electric is a top choice in its class. First launched in 2019, the 2022 model marks the midpoint in its lifecycle, which explains its midcycle freshening. Updates include interior and exterior changes, a larger touchscreen, and a retuned suspension. A combination of size, comfort, range, practicality, and value makes the 2022 Hyundai Kona Electric easy to recommend. The 5-seater is available in two trims with varying degrees of luxury and the same good looks that Kona buyers know and love. KBB Review Highlights
The 2022 Hyundai Kona Electric is a subcompact crossover electric vehicle (EV) that combines a playful blend of style and value-added features. It arrives on the same platform as the Best Buy Award-winning gas-powered Kona.
The 2022 Hyundai Kona Electric has an eager spirit and peppy performance with a boost of pure electric power. The magic trick is achieved by replacing the Kona’s gasoline engine with a battery pack and electric motor. Moreover, Hyundai recalibrated the suspension for 2022 to improve the ride and handling. The subcompact crossover’s distinctive looks echo the fun and versatility of the gas-powered Kona. With Hyundai’s fantastic warranty and long-driving electric range, the Kona Electric is a strong competitor to its class rivals, which include the Kia Niro EV, Tesla Model 3, and Chevrolet Bolt EV.

Buyers can choose from two trims: SEL and Limited. Both are front-wheel drive (FWD) only. Each one makes use of a 64-kWh lithium-ion battery and an electric motor that delivers a range of around 258 miles, with 201 horsepower and 291 lb-ft of torque. The result is a zippy drive. It feels anchored and solid due to the weight and undercarriage placement of the battery pack. The entry-level SEL comes with fabric seating, automatic emergency braking, blind-spot monitoring with rear-cross traffic alert, and proximity keyless entry with push-button start. In the Limited, you’ll find power-adjustable, leather seating, wireless charging, adaptive cruise control, rain-sensing wipers, a 10.25-inch touchscreen, and heated/ventilated front seats.
Buyers of the 2022 Kona Electric can expect the EV to charge up to around 80% capacity in less than an hour at a DC fast charging station. No question, the 2022 Hyundai Kona Electric is a stellar package, priding itself on rapid charging and decent range.
