Uber Freight has launched the industry’s first large-scale AI-powered logistics network, embedding a proprietary large language model (LLM) directly into its transportation management system (TMS) and logistics platform.

The development positions Uber Freight to transform industry operations. It intends to automate execution, improve decision-making, and increase supply chain responsiveness for shippers of all sizes.

Uber Freight is a division of Uber Technologies Inc. It operates as a leading enterprise logistics technology company, managing $20 billion in freight and serving one-third of Fortune 500 companies. It says its platform connects shippers with an extensive carrier network and provides tools for freight management, analytics, and optimization.

The new AI system includes more than 30 intelligent agents Uber has designed to automate key logistics functions. Those include procurement, shipment execution, tracking, payment processing, and performance analytics. These agents work in tandem with “Insights AI,” a real-time intelligence layer that delivers initiative-taking recommendations to improve cost efficiency, service levels, and network resilience.

“This is the inflection point we’ve been building toward,” said Lior Ron, CEO of Uber Freight. “With AI embedded at the core of our platform, we’re unlocking a new era of intelligent, responsive, and highly scalable logistics.”

The company said it trained the AI model on data from over $20 billion in freight under management. That includes freight from more than 30% of Fortune 500 firms — giving it deep operational context to generate relevant, actionable guidance across the shipment lifecycle.

Five enterprise customers participated in early testing, including Colgate-Palmolive. It reported significant gains in logistics visibility and planning agility after a year-long collaboration with Uber Freight’s transportation teams.

“With the scale and complexity of our operations, Insights AI has helped our team make faster, more strategic decisions,” said Tatiana Martinez, vice president of customer service and logistics at Colgate-Palmolive. “It’s helped us plan with greater confidence and respond more effectively to disruption.”

Uber Freight plans to expand its AI capabilities throughout 2025. That would evolve its TMS from a system of record to a real-time command center for logistics operations.
