Popularity isn’t always a great indicator of value among humans, but among cars, it’s a pretty reliable indicator that a lot of other people found value in popular vehicles and models because that’s where they spent their hard-earned money. For 2025, the most popular SUV lineup is filled with the usual suspects but also a few fresh faces. Even some of the familiar faces are new or updated for this year, with fresh style and technology.

No matter if you’re looking for a compact, midsize, or even full-size SUV, or whether you’re shopping for a city slicker or a backcountry scrambler, there’s something here for you.

These are the 25 most popular SUVs of 2025, so far, based on Automotive News and Cox Automotive data.

    1. Toyota RAV4

    Total Units Sold: 239,451

The Toyota RAV4’s mix of ample interior space, modern in-cabin tech, and abundant standard safety features is among the primary reasons it’s the best-selling SUV in America so far this year. For those seeking to eke out every possible mpg, the RAV4 Hybrid and RAV4 Plug-in Hybrid are also excellent do-it-all SUVs.

    2. Honda CR-V

2025 Honda CR-V Hybrid in Solar Silver

    Total Units Sold: 212,561

Perennially near the top of this list, the Honda CR-V offers an incredibly consistent value from generation to generation, with the latest as well-equipped, dependable, and nicely finished as ever. It’s so good it’s KBB’s Compact SUV Best Buy of 2025.

    3. Chevrolet Equinox

    2025 Chevrolet Equinox RS

    Total Units Sold: 157,638

Chevy’s Equinox is an all-new model for 2025, with fresh looks, a roomy cabin, new infotainment tech, and attractive pricing. Every Equinox includes Chevy Safety Assist, which includes automatic emergency braking with pedestrian detection, lane-keep assist, automatic high beams, and more.

    4. Tesla Model Y

    2025 Tesla Model Y

    Total Units Sold: 150,171

Big range, brisk performance, and high-tech self-driving features — it’s no secret why people like the Tesla Model Y, still the most popular electric SUV of 2025. Just about the only thing the Model Y doesn’t offer is Android Auto or Apple CarPlay, preferring its proprietary software.

    5. Chevrolet Trax

    2025 Chevrolet Trax RS

    Total Units Sold: 119,593

The Chevrolet Trax was fully redesigned for the 2024 model year, and its sharp looks, user-friendly tech, spacious interior for the segment, and value-packed feature sheet make it likely to carry that momentum forward into 2026.

    6. Hyundai Tucson

2025 Hyundai Tucson Limited in Ultimate Red

    Total Units Sold: 113,310

The Hyundai Tucson’s spacious, modern interior and advanced technology — including standard wireless smartphone integration on lower trims — give it plenty of appeal in addition to its somewhat edgy style. Folks who drive many highway miles may appreciate the optional Highway Driving Assist system, which combines adaptive cruise control and lane-following assist.

    7. Nissan Rogue

2025 Nissan Rogue Platinum in Deep Ocean Blue Pearl

    Total Units Sold: 109,563

The Nissan Rogue is a perennial underdog that somehow always does well with buyers despite never getting much praise in the press. Its excellent fuel economy, comfortable cabin, and strong safety tech make it an attractive choice, and its price makes it a strong value.

    8. Ford Explorer

    2025 Ford Explorer Platinum

    Total Units Sold: 104,929

Standard Co-Pilot360 Assist+ gives the Ford Explorer adaptive cruise control with stop-and-go and lane-centering functions, evasive steering assist, post-collision braking, and a suite of other driver-assist features. The Explorer can also tow up to 5,000 pounds when properly equipped and offers a pair of powerful engines.

    9. Jeep Grand Cherokee

2025 Jeep Grand Cherokee Summit Reserve 4xe

    Total Units Sold: 99,668

The Jeep Grand Cherokee’s top-spec models are outright luxury vehicles, some with tremendous off-road ability. However, even the base models offer upscale interiors, robust tech features, and rugged good looks. The Grand Cherokee 4xe adds 26 miles of all-electric range and 56 mpg combined.

    10. Subaru Forester

2025 Subaru Forester in River Rock Pearl

The Subaru Forester is new for 2025, with a subtly redesigned look and upgraded tech and features, including new premium options like DriverFocus distraction mitigation and a motion-activated power tailgate. Standard all-wheel drive (AWD) and plenty of ground clearance remain part of the mix, but you can increase off-road ability even further with the available Wilderness trim.

2025 Subaru Crosstrek with hills in the background.

    Total Units Sold: 90,334

The Subaru Crosstrek blurs the boundaries between hatchback and crossover SUV, with the distinction becoming essentially meaningless in the face of the Crosstrek’s standard all-wheel drive, 5-passenger seating, 54.9 cubic feet of cargo space, and 8.7 inches of ground clearance (or 9.3 inches of ground clearance in the Wilderness model).

    12. Kia Sportage

2025 Kia Sportage Hybrid parked in and around Irvine office parking lot.

    Total Units Sold: 87,172

    13. Jeep Wrangler

    2024 Jeep Wrangler 392 Rubicon

The 25 Most Popular SUVs of 2025 … So Far

    Total Units Sold: 82,589

Spacious and well equipped with a slew of tech features, the Ford Escape is a well-rounded value, which explains why it’s so popular. 15. Honda HR-V

    2025 Honda HR-V

    Total Units Sold: 79,110

The Honda HR-V looks much like a Honda CR-V or Passport that’s farther away, and that’s a great thing in terms of style and function. With a spacious interior despite the small footprint (including 55.1 cubic feet of storage), the HR-V exudes quality and is also loaded with safety equipment. It offers all-wheel drive and can be configured with leather upholstery and wireless smartphone integration for about $30,000.

    16. Subaru Outback

2025 Subaru Outback driving through Bryce Canyon National Park.

    Total Units Sold: 73,257

Some might call it a wagon, but Subaru calls it an SUV, and with standard all-wheel drive, up to 9.5 inches of ground clearance (Wilderness model), and more than 75 cubic feet of cargo space, who are we to argue? Whatever you call it, the Outback is a comfortable, affordable choice with genuine off-road and bad-weather ability.

    17. Ford Bronco Sport

    2025 Ford Bronco Sport

    Total Units Sold: 72,438

Although it’s not the rip-snorting beast that is the full-size Bronco (you’ll find that one below), the Ford Bronco Sport still offers some of that flavor but in a more compact, more civilized container. All-wheel drive is standard, as is a turbocharged 1.5-liter 3-cylinder engine.

    18. Ford Bronco

    2025 Ford Bronco Big Bend

    2025 Toyota Grand Highlander

    Total Units Sold: 65,419
