- Acura will cease production of its TLX midsize sedan in 8 days
There are too many good cars for them all to succeed. Some genuinely very good cars barely get noticed.
Take the Acura TLX. KBB expert test driver Colin Ryan says the TLX has “the goods and the guts to compete with anything in its class.” He praises its generous standard feature list, “agility and poise”, and “awesome audio system.”
Last month, Acura sold 706 of them. That’s about one TLX for every four BMW 3 Series sedans sold. It’s one for every six copies of the Lexus ES.
It’s not enough to justify continuing. Acura announced this morning that it will build its last TLX at the end of this month.
The move leaves the Integra as the only car in the Acura lineup, which otherwise consists entirely of SUVs. The Integra appears safe for now, receiving a technology refresh for the 2026 model year.
There is good news for car shoppers in the move, though. Acura dealers ended June with an unusually large supply of TLX sedans in stock. They traditionally aim for about 60 days’ worth of inventory. They finished the month with 156 days’ worth of TLX sedans on sales lots.
When an automaker cancels a model, it tends to stop advertising it. Dealers are sometimes willing to take lower offers for the leftovers to make room for something still advertised. This move means that you might find a very good TLX for sale at a lower price, even at a time of rising prices.
