This summer, Taylor Swift isn’t just topping charts or jet setting on a record-breaking tour—she’s embracing a cozy, hands-on lifestyle filled with knitting needles, aprons, and a newfound passion for from-scratch sourdough bread. In a recent appearance on the New Heights podcast, hosted by her boyfriend Travis Kelce and his brother Jason Kelce, the popstar shared how these “granny” hobbies have become her creative outlet and a way to connect with loved ones.
“I get on my granny s**t,” Taylor said during the podcast. “I like to sew. I specialize, as you [Jason Kelce] know, in children’s purses and baby blankets—I love to paint. I love to cook. I have a different baking obsession every six months.”
Sourdough: A New Obsession
Taylor’s current culinary adventure (aka obsession)? Sourdough bread. Since wrapping up her Eras Tour, she’s immersed herself in the art of bread-making, experimenting with flavors and techniques. “The sourdough has taken over my life in a huge way. I’m really talking about bread 60% of the time,” she confessed.
Her sourdough flavor repertoire includes:
- Classic Sourdough: A timeless favorite with a tangy flavor and chewy texture.
- Blueberry-Lemon: A sweet and zesty twist on the traditional loaf.
- Cinnamon Swirl: A warm, spiced bread perfect for breakfast.
- Cinnamon-Raisin: A comforting classic with a hint of sweetness.
- Funfetti: A playful, sprinkle-filled creation created especially for Jason and Kylie Kelce’s daughters. “One I’ve been workshopping one for the girls because they love everything rainbow—Funfetti Sourdough,” she said. “We put sprinkles in everything when we hang out.”
Sharing the Love
Taylor’s hobbies are about personal enjoyment, and they’re a way to connect with others. She often gifts her homemade bread and handcrafted items to friends and family, spreading warmth and love through her creations (often with puns that cleverly blend her music and sourdough).
Her partner, Travis, is equally supportive of her hobbies. “She’s getting good with making all these different versions of it,” he said. “She’s a loafer for life now.”
Community of Bakers
Taylor has discovered a vibrant online community of sourdough enthusiasts. “There’s a whole community of us, and I didn’t know it. This is where the internet is good … all I really use the internet for is sourdough,” she shared. So if you’re the curator of a baking or food blog, just know Swift is likely scrolling through it for her next sourdough recipe.
Swift’s grandmacore summer can be summed up in her answer to Jason asking her what she’d make to show off her baking skills, to which she said her cinnamon swirl sourdough and poptarts—”I just love making pop music and poptarts.”
