Who says leopards can’t change their spots?
Leopard Catamarans just unveiled a new 52-foot model that it claims is the most versatile sailing catamaran in its class, offering an “unprecedented number” of interior layouts. That means the various onboard spots can be arranged to suit the owner’s needs.
“The Leopard 52 is without a doubt the most versatile catamaran in its class,” Franck Bauguil, Leopard’s senior vice president of yacht ownership and product development, said in a statement. “From private owners and long-term liveaboards to charter guests and families, this yacht adapts to every lifestyle with unmatched flexibility.”

The newcomer builds upon the successful Leopard 50, but is larger, faster, and more agile than that 50-footer. Naval architects Simonis Voogd Design refined the existing hull design to reduce pitching motion, improve seakeeping, and optimize turning ability. The 52 also has a taller mast and 17 percent more upwind sail area compared to the 50.
“The new Leopard 52 belongs to a new generation of catamarans that achieve better stability and comfort while offering a larger rig and more sail power,” adds Alexander Simonis of Simonis Voogd Design. “Owners can expect less motoring and more pure sailing pleasure.”

Another bonus is that the cat can be equipped with a new hybrid propulsion package capable of generating hydroelectric power while under sail. It can also be fitted with four 400W solar panels, lithium battery systems, and electric appliances to reduce emissions.
The adaptable living quarters are perhaps the biggest selling point, though. The press materials detail 10 different layouts, ranging from a family configuration with three cabins and a utility room to a charter setup with six en suite cabins. You can also add a crew cabin if desired. All layouts ensure seamless indoor-outdoor living, with fully opening salons and aft cockpits. You can also expect high-end finishes and details throughout, resulting in an environment that is “closer to a luxury residence than a traditional yacht,” according to Leopard.
The Leopard 52 will be built by Robertson & Caine in South Africa. The multihull will be offered for charter through the Moorings as the Moorings 5200, if you want to try before you buy.
