Steve Pagliuca may no longer be a co-owner of the Celtics—his bid to buy the 18-time NBA championship-winning team earlier this year was rejected—and now he’s no longer the owner of an extensively updated townhouse in Boston‘s Back Bay neighborhood. The businessman, who currently serves as the co-chairman of Bain Capital, has parted ways with the Beantown pad for $11.5 million, quite a bit more than the $11 million asking price.

The four-bedroom, seven-bathroom home saw significant interest immediately upon coming up for sale, with a bidding war breaking out and the almost 5,700-square-foot spread going under contract after just four days on the market.

The home includes two kitchens, with the larger one found on the third floor.

The buyer is Ron Sargent, the interim CEO of Kroger and a former CEO of Staples who received both his undergraduate and master’s degrees from nearby Harvard. George Sarkis at Douglas Elliman represented both parties in the transaction.

Pagliuca and his wife, Judy, bought the corner property back in 2015 for just $5.1 million. At the time, it was configured as two condominium units, and the couple spent the next couple of years turning it into an expansive single-family home. Today, behind the beautifully restored classic red-brick facade, the circa 1890s home is sleek and modern with designer-ready white walls and very little of the original architectural detailing intact.

A formal entertainment space, a combination living and dining room, is on the main floor along with a service kitchen. A larger showpiece kitchen is on the second floor. Here, a marble island anchors the cooking space, which adjoins a more casual dining area and the family room. The fourth floor is dedicated completely to the primary suite, where a fireplace-warmed bedroom flows through an ample closet to the bathroom. Frosted windows allow you to relax in the soaking tub without the prying eyes of neighbors.

Several guest bedrooms are on the top floor, which leads to a finished roof deck with city views, one of several outdoor spaces throughout the house, while a gym sits on the lowest floor along with a private garage. There’s also an elevator that stops on all floors as well a heated front walkway and driveway that Sargent and his staff will appreciate during snowy Northeastern winters.
