Although they need a little more water than snake plants, Winter also recommends dracaena plants due to their low light needs and ability to grow in relatively dry soil.
“Dracaenas also have a variety of leaf shapes, colors, and variegation patterns,” Winter says. “And they brighten up dark corners.”
In the world of houseplants, there are lots of dracaenas to choose from, but a few varieties stand out as particularly easy to care for. Dragon trees, for instance, are known for their funky silhouettes and spiky leaves, and they grow in low light to bright, indirect sun. Lucky bamboo dracaena are a bit smaller, but they also tolerate low light and they can be grown in soil or water.
