Acura and Infiniti compete in so many segments, but perhaps nowhere is that battle as fierce as the midsize luxury SUV class. The 2025 Acura MDX and 2025 Infiniti QX60 don’t look much alike, but they are very similar in so many other ways. With those similarities in mind, let’s look for some contrast below.

    2025 Acura MDX

2025 Acura MDX A-Spec in Apex Blue Pearl

The Acura MDX looks ready to move, thanks to a revised front end that provides it with a more athletic, sculpted exterior. The exterior belies the spacious cabin, offering an impressive mix of soft-touch materials and leading-edge technology.

A 3.5-liter V6 under the hood complements the interior’s niceties. Putting out 290 horsepower and 267 lb-ft of torque, the engine is connected to a 10-speed automatic transmission. It features front-wheel drive (FWD) for the base model, but if you move up to the A-Spec Package, Acura’s Super Handling All-Wheel Drive (SH-AWD) becomes standard kit. Jump to the Type S and a 355-horsepower V6 awaits.

The comfort and convenience tech on the base-level MDX is impressive, highlighted by a new 12.3-inch touchscreen supporting Apple CarPlay and Android Auto. There’s also wireless smartphone charging, two USB-C ports, Wi-Fi, Google built-in, and Amazon Alexa capability. New options include 16-way massaging front seats and two Bang & Olufsen audio upgrades. The top-line Type S w/Advanced Package debuts AcuraWatch 360, Acura’s semi-autonomous advanced driver-assist technology.

    Acura MDX Highlights

Communication: The CabinTalk feature, which is available in the A-Spec trim level, allows folks sitting up front to send their voices through the sound system, muting the regular audio automatically so that rear passengers can hear them.

AcuraLink: Free for three years, AcuraLink brings features such as maintenance scheduling, automatic collision notification, stolen vehicle location, and remote lock/unlock — to name just a few.

Safety first: This family SUV garnered a Top Safety Pick+ from the Insurance Institute for Highway Safety (IIHS) and a 5-Star overall score from the National Highway Traffic Safety Administration (NHTSA).

    2025 Infiniti QX60

Larger midsize 3-row SUVs often adopt similar styling cues, making it challenging for the average consumer to tell them apart. Fortunately, the 2025 QX60 stands out from the crowd with its large grille and curvy lines.

While some SUVs in this luxury class can look a bit sporty or blocky, the QX60 features the right mix of curves and creases, reflecting its status within the segment: powerful and comfortable. For 2025, Infiniti replaces the previous year’s V6 with an all-new turbocharged 4-cylinder engine providing 268 hp. Its matched to a 9-speed automatic transmission. While the new engine provides less horsepower than the old V6, it significantly improves torque, which helps with rapid off-the-line acceleration and passing maneuvers.

Infiniti vehicles usually offer comfortable ride and handling, and the QX60 certainly meets the standard. That’s augmented by a spacious cabin with room for seven and an easy-to-access third-row seat. The QX60 comes in just four trim levels: Pure, Luxe, Sensory, and Autograph. All-wheel drive is available on each trim and comes standard on the Autograph.

    Infiniti QX60 Highlights

Simple touch: This SUV’s One-Touch second-row seats tilt and slide forward at the touch of a button. This feature makes the third row easy to access, even with child car seats installed.

Semi-autonomous: The ProPilot Assist with Navi-link system controls acceleration, braking, and steering on the highway. The driver sets the speed, keeps their hands on the wheel, and then lets the QX60 SUV follow the road while maintaining a consistent gap to the vehicle in front.

Outstanding sound: A Bose 17-speaker premium audio system creates a luxurious audio experience for every passenger in the QX60. It’s standard on the Luxe and higher trims.

    Conclusion

The difference between these two vehicles comes down to how you like your performance. The MDX is slightly roomier and has the exciting Type S option with a proven V6, while the QX60 relies on a new turbocharged engine that is more fuel efficient. So, the choice is either really simple or very difficult: pick the one you like best after test-driving both.
