The legality of President Donald Trump’s executive order giving himself much more control over independent agencies will likely be decided by the U.S. Supreme Court.
The order, issued Tuesday, requires independent agencies like the Federal Trade Commission, Securities and Exchange Commission and Federal Communications Commission to submit proposed regulations to the White House for review and to accept the Department of Justice’s interpretations of law. The Office of Management and Budget would also review agency spending to ensure it is line with the president’s priorities.
