In Aspen, Colorado, one of the U.S.’s most expensive and luxurious ski towns, Red Mountain is considered the go-to neighborhood for billionaires Jeff Bezos, Les Wexner, Byron Allen, Ann Walton Kroenke, and Sid Bass, to name a few. But this isn’t the only area attracting deep-pocketed individuals. As the ski town becomes inundated with ultra-wealthy and typically seasonal residents, it’s no surprise that every neighborhood in the tiny resort town has experienced skyrocketing prices, whether you own 25 acres or less than one.

West End, a residential area adjacent to the downtown core, is filled with historic homes that have endured among the area’s red-hot residential boom over the past decade or two and has become increasingly attractive to buyers looking to put down roots in a convenient, walkable location. Case in point? A nearly new home on East Bleeker Street, rebuilt about five years ago with a plethora of features for the modern age on a foundation that dates back to 1888 and recently listed for $44 million.

A lounge with a massive stone fireplace and bar area makes a cozy après-ski spot.

“Rebuilding the home for a modern family, while still incorporating the original structure, doors, and windows from the 1800s was quite the task but turned out beautifully,” says listing agent Jamay Shook of Plus Real Estate.

The fashionably appointed pad was designed by Eigelberger Architecture, a Colorado-based firm that works across the country. The all-star creative lineup also included AD100 designer Shawn Henderson and the landscape architecture outfit Design Workshop. Situated on a sun-drenched, southeast-facing lot, the home is an integral part of the neighborhood but feels exceptionally secluded once inside. And though the many-gabled home may be situated much closer to its neighbors than houses in some of Aspen’s farther-flung neighborhoods, it’s also just two blocks from the perennially chic Hotel Jerome, along with a gourmand’s selection of impeccable restaurants.

The 5,540-square-foot home has five bedrooms and seven bathrooms across three levels and features soaring ceilings, large windows, a neutral color palette, and steel-cased windows and doors that lead to private patios with views of Shadow Mountain.

The home is encircled by a white picket fence, but this residence is far from cookie-cutter. Craftsmanship and fine materiality were important to both the designer and architect, both known for their work on multi-million-dollar residences. Inside, large-scale rooms feature stark-white walls, light-oak floors, arched entryways and doors, and a slate of natural materials like stone and wood. The main level features a cozy fireside lounge and a sleek kitchen with rustic tiled walls, high-end appliances, and a casual dining area.

The finished lower level has exceptionally high ceilings.

A grand, swooping staircase leads to a lofted landing on the second floor, where there is a lounge area with a gorgeous wet bar, along with the primary bedroom. A sprawling haven includes a private, street-facing terrace, an infrared sauna, and a skylight-capped bathroom with a freestanding soaking tub set against a majestic mountain view. There’s also a spacious guest suite, which includes its own laundry and coffee bar. The finished lower level features soaring, beamed ceilings, a vast family room, a bar and wine room, and three generous guest bedrooms.

The property has been used as a lucrative rental in the past, up to $250,000 per week during peak ski season. However, Aspen isn’t only lively in the winter; it’s a year-round destination with many summertime festivals, events, and concerts, as well as many options for hiking, mountain biking, and playing polo.
