Ford is conducting two new lighting-related recalls of its Maverick pickup truck to address previous recall remedies that were done incorrectly.
Each recall involves small numbers of Mavericks from model years 2022 through 2024. One recall, of 2,711 vehicles, covers taillights that may fail to illuminate. The second recall, of 1,635 vehicles, cover rear turn signals that may not activate. Failure of these lighting elements reduces visibility to other road users, increasing the risk of a crash.
Both lighting issues are due to software errors in the affected vehicles’ body control modules, which were supposed to be addressed under previous recalls. However, Ford discovered that incorrect software was installed in some vehicles, allowing the problems to persist.
The automaker told the NHTSA that it is not aware of any crashes or injuries related to either condition, but it means affected vehicles have to go back to dealerships to have their body control module software updated again. As with the previous recalls, this will be done free of charge.
Ford plans to mail owner notification letters for both recalls starting Mar. 31. Owners can also call the automaker’s customer service department at 866-436-7332 for more information. Ford’s reference number for the taillight recall is 25S07, while the reference number for the turn signal recall is 25C04.
