Ford and its Lincoln luxury marque are asking the owners of 49,399 previously recalled vehicles to bring their SUVs back to the dealership for a second repair because their rearview cameras can fail.

Ford recalled 380,000 SUVs in 2023 to fix backup cameras that could shut down suddenly. Dealers repaired the problem with a software update.
But the company recently learned that some of those software updates failed. The tool dealers use to install updates could report success even when an upload was not successful. So, the company needs to repeat the installation for about 50,000 SUVs that likely didn’t receive the patch the first time.
Ford says dealers have a new process that lets them verify installation before returning a vehicle to its owner. Recall repairs are always free.
