Lucid Motors has recalled 4,294 all-weather floor mats sold as accessories for Air sedans. The mats could trap accelerator pedals in the down position, causing unintended acceleration. The recall does not apply to the floor mats that ship with every Lucid. Instead, it covers rubber mats “sold as replacement equipment via Lucid sales outlets and online store.”

Lucid is not aware of the problem happening to an owner but says a sales associate recently discovered that it was possible.

The company tells federal safety regulators that the all-weather floor mats can “move out of position and interfere with the accelerator returning to idle.”

Designers use an anchor to secure most floor mats on the driver’s side, but not these, Lucid says. The rubber mats “have nibs on the bottom though no hole through which an anchor attachment mechanism would connect.”

Because the mats are after-market parts inessential to the car’s function, Lucid has no plans to repair them. Instead, the company says customers should throw them out for safety reasons. Lucid will refund the purchase cost of the floor mats.

Automakers try to notify the owners of every affected car but can’t always reach everyone. To find out if your vehicle has any outstanding recalls, try our easy VIN search tool at our recall center.
