Volkswagen has recalled 5,637 ID. Buzz electric vans to change the way they warn drivers of any brake problems.
Volkswagen builds the ID. Buzz in Europe and sells it in several countries. The company tells federal safety regulators that the car currently warns drivers of brake problems using an international symbol — an amber-colored circle inside brackets with an exclamation point at the center.
U.S. federal regulations require cars to use the word “BRAKE” in red to alert of brake problems. Since many Americans are unfamiliar with the exclamation point symbol, drivers might not understand the warning and react appropriately.
Dealers will fix the problem with a software update.
