Acura has recalled 152,800 MDX SUVs from model years 2014-2020 because all of the lights on the rear of the vehicle, inside and out, can go dark at once. For many of the vehicles, this is the second recall over this same issue.

Acura tells the National Highway Traffic Safety Administration (NHTSA) that moisture can get inside a seal in the tailgate. That can cause a short circuit and blow a fuse, taking out some interior lights, the tail lights, the license plate lights, the parking lights, and the light that turns on when you open the tailgate.

Acura recalled many of the same vehicles in 2019 to correct a similar problem. However, the company says that the redesigned lid light assembly used in that repair “did not sufficiently prevent moisture intrusion.” So dealers need to repair them again.

They’ll “inspect and install a fuse harness, replace the lid light, and repair the body dust sealer, as necessary.” Acura will also provide an additional five years of warranty coverage for the lid light on some vehicles receiving their second repair.

    Recall repairs are always free.

Automakers recall many cars, often more than once, during their lifespan. Automakers try to contact every owner but don’t always reach them all. Find out whether your car has any outstanding recalls with the easy VIN tool at our recall center.
