Ford and its Lincoln luxury marque have recalled 206 midsize SUVs because they may have a loose frame bolt. That, the company says, “may affect crash performance, increasing the risk of injury.”
Recalled models include some, but not all, examples of the:
- 2025 Ford Explorer
- 2025 Lincoln Aviator
The company tells federal safety officials that one front subframe mounting bolt in the vehicles may not have been torqued to specification. A car’s subframe plays a critical role in protecting occupants during a crash, so a weakness there is a safety issue. These cars have six subframe mounting bolts, and the company believes five of six are properly installed. One, however, may have been tightened with a damaged tool.
The company knows of no accidents or injuries related to the problem. Inspectors uncovered it during a routine factory audit.
Dealers will inspect the subframe bolts and tighten the suspect bolt if it’s called for.
By law, dealers never charge for recall repairs.
