    I love an area rug.

As someone who has lived in a lot of buildings with hardwood and tile floors, rugs aren’t just another way to incorporate your design style into a room—they can also go a long way to making your home feel more comfortable on your feet, too.

But one thing I don’t love is their tendency to slide around, especially if they aren’t anchored down by furniture.

While I don’t have any issues with the large area rug in my living room, the runners in my kitchen and in my hallways slip and slide and get knocked out of position multiple times a day. It isn’t just annoying—it can be a hazard not just to me, but to any guests who enter my home.

I’ve had limited success with full rug pads—the ones that you attach to the underside of the rug and they’re the same size as the rug. I just never felt like these actually made the rugs non-slip.

Then I came across these Gorilla Grip Gripper Pads; I don’t think I’ll ever go back.

And bonus: it’s on sale right now for Prime Day.

These Gorilla Grip pads adhere to the back of your rug, and you can put as many of them on the rug as you want. I opted to put one in each corner of the rug.

You peel off the other side of the gripper, and it adheres to the floor. And when I say it adheres, I mean it—you have to really try hard to remove it from the floor once it’s in place.

You’ll want to make sure you’re putting the rug exactly where you want it the first time, otherwise you might need to replace the gripper pad again. But because the adhesive is so strong, you really don’t need to worry about your rugs sliding around anymore.

I put gripper pads on my rugs in both my entryway and in my upper hallway, and they truly have not moved out of place since.

I am not sure these would work particularly well on soft surfaces, like carpet, and you should be careful when using them on surfaces like hardwood—they can leave behind a residue that you’ll want to be careful cleaning off your floors.

But if you’re looking for an effective option for keeping rugs in place, I can’t recommend these enough.

Other Tips for Preventing Rugs From Slipping

There are some other ways you can prevent rugs from slipping, though in my experience, they haven’t always been effective:

    • Try a rubber waffle rug pad, which you can cut to the exact shape and size you need.
    • Use a rubberized shelf liner.
    • Use velcro anchors.
    • Apply silicone caulk to the back of the rug, wait for it to dry completely, then lay it in place.
    • On carpet, rug pins can be put in each corner of the rug to anchor it to the soft flooring.
