McDonald’s launched a program for Amazon delivery drives across the US this summer, giving them perks – including bathroom breaks. The fast-food chain launched the Amazon Last Mile Driver Program in June in conjunction with Amazon.
According to McDonald’s executive Luke Crawford, “This initiative is all about recognizing the essential work these drivers do every day and sparking feel-good moments throughout the summer.”
Amazon product manager Lexi Cantwell-Badyna also shared the news on a post on LinkedIn. “Starting June 11, DSP Delivery Associates will have exclusive access to free drinks and food offers, plus ice, water, and rest areas at McDonald’s locations across the United States. These drivers power the last mile on behalf of Amazon, delighting customers every day.”
“We remain committed to building real solutions that support, uplift, and recognize the essential work these drivers do, and I am deeply encouraged by what this milestone represents.”
A driver shared on a Reddit thread a screenshot of the offer they received last month, and another shared a screenshot of the app showing “App Exclusive Deals” with a blue “DSP” box over an offer for Amazon Delivery Service Partners.
For participants who said they couldn’t get the promotion to work, one thread participant wrote, “The ops manager or dsp owner needs to opt into the program through the dsp portal at which point it sends your payroll system email address to McDonald’s who loads the incentives to that app login.”
One cynic wrote in the Reddit thread, “I like how discounts at other corporate monopolies is now regarded as a “benefit.”” Another said they believed McDonald would profit from the program and believed Amazon likely got paid to have a McDonald’s ad in their app.
McDonald’s old TV commercial tagline seems appropriate, here’s a vintage “You Deserve a Break Today” commercial via YouTube:
