A glamorously chic Beverly Hills home tinged with Hollywood Golden Age history could be yours for a cool $42 million.
Built in 1938, Rutherford House gets its name from a former tenant, the actress Ann Rutherford, best known for her role as one of Scarlett O’Hara‘s sisters in the film classic Gone With the Wind. The stately property last sold in 2018 for $27.6 million and has since undergone a series of updates that have retained the home’s historic details while adding more fashionable, modern updates. Jacob Dadon at Sotheby’s International Realty, Beverly Hills Brokerage, holds the listing.

The stately foyer, lined with herringbone wood floors, opens to both formal living and dining rooms. The kitchen, with a window-lined breakfast nook, is covered in white marble with statement gray veining on the countertops and the walls. A black and white checkerboard floor and an Art Deco mosaic ceiling inject grandeur into the utilitarian space.
The ground level is also home to a library and billiards room inspired by the French designer Émile-Jacques Ruhlmann and a moody bar for slinging drinks. Most eye-catching might just be the morning room, which features an original fireplace and is wrapped in 18th-century wallpaper.
The grand primary suite takes up its own wing of the house on the upper floor. Dual marble bathrooms and large dressing rooms offer complete privacy when getting ready, and if you’re in need of more quiet time, a private lounge overlooks the landscaped gardens down below. There are five bedrooms and nine bathrooms total. Out back, an oval pool is accompanied by a cabana with a bar and TV for poolside lounging.

Rutherford House was originally built for the Beverly Hills mayor Edward Paul Dentzel, Mansion Global reported. After Rutherford and her husband moved in, they used the residence to host several weddings, lending it the name “Greenway Chapel,” after the street on which it’s located.
Since it last sold seven years ago, the estate’s value has risen substantially, at least when it comes to the current listing price. That’s no surprise in Beverly Hills, though—the 90210 is home to some of the country’s most expensive properties. Just this week, Cary Grant’s former abode was listed for $78 million, and Paris Hilton plopped down $63 million to buy Mark Wahlberg’s massive estate last month.
