Classic French toast takes a detour to Southeast Asia when you infuse the custard mixture with Thai tea mix for bold flavor. Finish a stack of the tender slices with a drizzle of sweetened condensed milk. Avoid using bread with large air holes. If you’re using soft, fresh bread, arrange slices in a single layer on a wire rack; cover loosely and let dry out overnight.
What Is Thai Tea?
Thai tea is a sweet, creamy black tea beverage originally from Thailand. While you can make tea with black tea leaves, spices, and sweetened condensed milk, you can also find instant Thai tea—an all-in-one combo of black tea, milk powder, and warming spices (cardamom, cinnamon, star anise, etc.). In testing, we liked the flavor of Ranong Instant Thai Tea sachets.
