Batsheva Hay is continuing to forge her own path forward with a small pre-fall lineup packed with newness. A group of silk cashmere knits that included a brown polka dotted off-the shoulder maxi dress with a matching scarf, and a ¾ sleeve shirt and matching pencil skirt in a blurry, wallpaper-y pink floral offered a kind of retro charm, as did a cotton leopard print wiggle dress with a sweetheart neckline and a contrasting bustle skirt. A knitted vest emblazoned with “SPINSTER” across the chest, was the latest addition to a successful “women reclaiming words” series that began with the wildly popular “HAG” sweater from her fall 2024 collection.
Elsewhere, pastel lace pieces that she described as “bridesmaid-y” hinted at an upcoming “full-bridal collection” that she plans to show during Bridal Fashion Week in April—a smart extension for the designer. She also zeroed in on special details, like taffeta glove sleeves that you could wear with one of her signature short caftans, or any other piece in your closet. Hay explained she was originally going to shoot the collection in a studio, on a model, and then scratched those plans, opting instead to model the collection herself in her kitchen. “The refrigerator is a place where we go to look for answers,” she explained. “I’m in a time in my life, and in my brand, where I’m just like, what are the answers? Who has them?” The truth is no one has all the answers, of course, but Hay is making really good headway as she tries to figure it all out.
